The Tea House -- Built in 1864
The Hoover Historical Center published the following information about the Tea House:
"The original farmhouse was partially constructed of hewed logs and renovated by Grace (Mrs. H.W.) Hoover, Sr. for a Tea House, which it is still called today. Ellsworth Smith, art director at The Hoover Company and the art department were quite involved in the decorating. For a short while, it was used for visiting dignitaries. Mrs. Hoover planned this to be a commerical venture, though it never came to fruition. The Tea House is located to the right of the workshop".
"From a North Canton Heritage Society's publication, Ron Mapp, who worked for the Hoovers for nearly 40 years stated that he believed the Tea House was at least 100 years old; which makes it the oldest building on the property. Mr. Mapp also reported that the Tea House was home to the Colson children of Great Britain during WWII."
"During the 1950s, Mrs. Grace Hoover hosted many card parties and social events at the Tea House. In later years the building was used to house employees in transition until they found homes in the North Canton community."
